The Sport Pilot CFI course represents a major breakthrough in simplifying the process of becoming an instructor: Instrument and Commercial requirements are waived, making it possible for a pilot to start instructing with a significant reduction in hours and money invested.

Despite the simplification, Sunrise CFI training for Sport instructors remains exceptionally thorough, reflecting our intention to make CFI graduates sufficiently skilled to instruct with the school upon graduation (staff openings permitting).

The course is designed for pilots who wish to add effective instruction skills rather than simply pass an FAA exam. The typical ratio of ground instruction to flight in the program is 3:1. After each instruction session, the CFI student presents the materials back to a Sunrise instructor in practice teaching sessions until presentations are relaxed and confident.

The Sunrise CFI courses serve as as opportunity for applicants to assure themselves that their understanding of each course area is flawless. At the same time, flight skills are polished to the levels necessary for the graduate CFI to move comfortably from the clasroom into professional flight instructing.
